Kashmir budget packages

Most cheap Kashmir packages get cheap by cutting things you will notice — shared transport, a destination quietly dropped, or a headline per-person price that only applies at eight travellers. These do it the honest way: lower hotel category, everything else intact.

What stays in at this price

• A private vehicle for the whole trip, not shared or seat-in-coach.
• Every destination on the itinerary — nothing is cut to reach the number.
• The Dal Lake shikara hour, and a night on a houseboat.
• Breakfast and dinner daily, all transfers, tolls, parking and GST.

What you actually give up

Hotel comfort, and not much else. 2★ in Srinagar means clean and central rather than plush, and the houseboat is a standard rather than deluxe boat. On a trip where you are out of the room from breakfast until evening, that is usually the right thing to economise on.

Travelling cheap by timing

The largest saving available is not the hotel category, it is the month. The same itinerary costs materially less in November or February than in May or June — often more than the gap between our budget and standard ranges.
