Lucknow travellers usually come in family groups over the summer holidays. With a Delhi connection or an overnight train to Jammu, 5 nights gives a comfortable, unhurried trip.
Lucknow to Kashmir is a popular summer-holiday trip for families across Uttar Pradesh — a straightforward way out of 45°C heat and into cool mountain air, with the Mughal gardens and old city of Srinagar as a bonus for anyone who loves Lucknow’s own architecture.
Flights from Lucknow generally connect via Delhi and reach Srinagar the same day. The overnight train to Jammu Tawi, followed by the new line into the valley, is the favourite of larger families: no baggage limits, and the Chenab bridge crossing is a highlight for children.
Five nights suits most Lucknow families. The Family Delight Kashmir Tour and the Classic Kashmir — Srinagar, Pahalgam & Gulmarg are the usual choices. Travellers interested in history should give Srinagar an extra half day for the Old City — the Jama Masjid and Khanqah-e-Moula are the valley’s answer to Lucknow’s own monuments.
Lucknow (LKO) → Srinagar (SXR), usually one connection via Delhi
A morning departure from Lucknow reaches Srinagar the same afternoon on most connections.
Lucknow → Jammu Tawi, then on to Srinagar
Several long-distance trains run from Lucknow to Jammu Tawi, most of them overnight. From Katra (or Jammu Tawi) the Vande Bharat on the new all-weather line reaches Srinagar in about three hours. Book both legs on IRCTC.
May and June for relief from the Uttar Pradesh summer, or September to October for quieter valleys and lower rates.
Kashmir is beautiful all year round. Spring (March–May) is ideal for tulip gardens and blossoming orchards. Summer (June–August) offers lush green valleys perfect for sightseeing. Autumn (September–November) brings stunning golden foliage. Winter (December–February) is magical for snowfall and skiing in Gulmarg.
