Kolkata to Kashmir tour packages

Bengali travellers are among Kashmir’s most loyal visitors, and the Puja holidays in October line up with the valley’s best weather. Kolkata has direct flights to Srinagar, so even a 5 night trip works.

Kolkata to Kashmir has a long history — Bengali travellers have been coming to the valley for generations, and they still arrive in the largest numbers during the Puja holidays. That timing is lucky: October is one of the best months of the year in Kashmir.

Flight or train from Kolkata

Direct flights from Kolkata to Srinagar make even a 5 night trip practical. The train — the Himgiri Express and others to Jammu Tawi, then the new line into the valley — takes well over a day each way, and suits travellers who have a fortnight and enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Kashmir in the Puja holidays

Late September to early November brings stable weather, chinar trees turning red across Srinagar, and the saffron fields at Pampore in flower from the last days of October. It is also shoulder season, so rates sit below the May–June peak. Families usually take the Family Delight Kashmir Tour; the 5N/6D with deluxe houseboat adds a night on Dal Lake.

Puja week is the one time of the Bengali calendar when everyone travels at once. Flights from Kolkata and the best Srinagar hotels fill weeks ahead of those dates.

How to reach Kashmir from Kolkata

By air

Kolkata (CCU) → Srinagar (SXR), direct and one-stop options

Direct services operate from Kolkata. Puja-season flights fill early; book as soon as leave is confirmed.

By train

Howrah or Kolkata → Jammu Tawi, then on to Srinagar

Long-established trains such as the Himgiri Express connect Kolkata with Jammu Tawi — a journey of well over a day. From Katra (or Jammu Tawi) the Vande Bharat on the new all-weather line reaches Srinagar in about three hours. Book both legs on IRCTC.

Best time to travel from Kolkata

Late September to early November — the Puja holidays coincide with clear skies and chinar colour. April to June is the other good window.

Tips for travellers from Kolkata

  • Book flights for Puja week as soon as leave is confirmed — they fill well before hotels do.
  • October nights in Gulmarg and Pahalgam drop close to freezing; pack warmer than for a Darjeeling trip.
  • Fish is common on Kashmiri menus, and Srinagar has restaurants familiar with Bengali travellers — ask us.

Questions from Kolkata travellers

Kashmir is beautiful all year round. Spring (March–May) is ideal for tulip gardens and blossoming orchards. Summer (June–August) offers lush green valleys perfect for sightseeing. Autumn (September–November) brings stunning golden foliage. Winter (December–February) is magical for snowfall and skiing in Gulmarg.
