The cave and lingam
A natural Shiva lingam inside a long limestone cave.
A long natural cave in the hills of Reasi with a self-formed Shiva lingam inside, reached by a 3.5 km walk from Ransoo. Often paired with Vaishno Devi.
Shiv Khori is a natural cave in the hills of Reasi district, considered one of the most sacred Shiva shrines in the region. The cave is long and narrow in places, opening into a chamber with a naturally formed lingam, with water dripping from the rock above.
From the road head at Ransoo, a paved path of about 3.5 km leads up to the cave. Ponies are available. Inside, pilgrims move in queues and the passage can be tight — not ideal for anyone uncomfortable in confined spaces.
Most visitors come from Katra as a day trip after Vaishno Devi. Mahashivratri brings the largest crowds. Registration may be required in peak season.
