Sheshnag shrine
The serpent deity’s temple on the shore.
A lake in forested hills about 60 km from Jammu, sacred to the serpent deity Sheshnag. Boating, a lakeside walk and temples on the shore.
Mansar is a lake about a kilometre long in the Shivalik hills, surrounded by forest. It is sacred to Hindus: the shrine of Sheshnag, the serpent deity, stands on the eastern bank, and newly married couples traditionally come here to seek blessings.
A path circles the lake, with temples, a small wildlife enclosure and boating. It is a popular weekend outing from Jammu and a pleasant stop on the way to Patnitop for those who take the longer route.
Combine with Surinsar for a lakes half day.
