The high pass on the Bandipora–Gurez road, at around 3,500 m, with long views back over Wular Lake. Snowbound for half the year.

Razdan Pass carries the road from Bandipora over the mountains into the Gurez valley. The climb from Bandipora is steep, with hairpins and long views back over Wular Lake. At the top there are snowfields well into summer and a small army post.
The pass is closed by heavy snow every winter, cutting Gurez off from the rest of Kashmir for months. It usually opens in late spring once the road is cleared.
Travelling over it
You cross Razdan on the way to Gurez. Carry ID for the checkpoints and keep warm layers handy. Stop at the top for photographs if the army post permits.

Visiting Razdan Pass
Only between roughly June and September, and only by giving it two days, because the road over the Razdan Pass is long and Gurez is a border area that needs a permit and an overnight stay. On a seven-day trip that means dropping one of Sonamarg or Pahalgam.
The main routes to Gulmarg, Sonamarg (through the Z-Morh tunnel) and Pahalgam are kept open, but heavy snow can close any of them for a few hours or a day, and Srinagar flights are sometimes delayed by snow. Gurez, Zero Point, Sinthan Top and the Mughal Road are closed all winter. Keep a spare day.
Indian citizens need a valid government photo ID (Aadhaar, Passport or Voter ID). Foreign nationals require a valid passport and Indian visa. Some areas near the border may require special permits — we assist with all documentation for your Kashmir trip.
