Orchards and villages
Apple and walnut country.
An oval valley of orchards, rice fields and forest in Kupwara, about 25 km long. Kalaroos caves, Chandigam and a rural Kashmir few tourists see.
Lolab is a long, oval valley in Kupwara district, enclosed by forested hills. Its villages sit among apple, walnut and cherry orchards, with rice fields on the valley floor. Kashmiri poets have long called it Wadi-e-Lolab — the valley of love.
It is pure rural Kashmir: no ski lifts, no shikaras, just villages, springs, forest and people who are often surprised to see tourists. Government tourist huts and homestays make a stay possible.
The Kalaroos caves and the village of Chandigam are the main stops. Combine Lolab with Bangus for a two- or three-day north Kashmir trip.
