The Kishanganga
The river and the villages across the LoC.
A border village on the Kishanganga river in the Karnah valley, facing the other side of the Line of Control, with a newly built Sharda temple. By permission only.
Teetwal is a village in the Karnah valley at the far north-west of Kupwara, on the bank of the Kishanganga (Neelum) river. The river marks the Line of Control here, and villages on the other side are in plain view.
A Sharda temple was built at Teetwal in 2023, on the traditional pilgrimage route to the ancient Sharda Peeth across the LoC, and has become a place of pilgrimage. The drive here crosses Sadhna Pass with sweeping mountain views.
This is a border area. Visits need permission from the local authorities or army, usually arranged a day or more ahead, and every adult must carry original government photo ID. Foreign nationals face additional restrictions. Access can be suspended at short notice — we confirm the position before you travel.

Large numbers of tourists visit Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg every season, and the main tourist circuit is well policed. Conditions can still change at short notice, so before you book, check the latest travel updates from J&K Tourism and any advisory from your own government if you are travelling from abroad. We are based in Srinagar and on these roads every day. If a road closure, weather or a local restriction affects your route, we will tell you before you travel and adjust the itinerary.
