The pass
Mountain views and summer snow.
A pass of about 3,100 m on the road from Kupwara to Tangdhar and the Karnah valley, with wide mountain views. Snowbound in winter.
Sadhna Pass (also called Nastachun) carries the road from Kupwara over the Shamsbari range to Tangdhar and the Karnah valley. At around 3,100 m it gives wide views over forested ridges and, in early summer, snowfields beside the road.
The road is cleared by the army and stays open most of the year, but heavy snow closes it at times in winter. It is the only road route into Karnah.
Travel beyond Kupwara towards Karnah involves checkpoints and may require permission; carry original ID. Most visitors cross Sadhna on the way to Teetwal.

Indian citizens need a valid government photo ID (Aadhaar, Passport or Voter ID). Foreign nationals require a valid passport and Indian visa. Some areas near the border may require special permits — we assist with all documentation for your Kashmir trip.
The main routes to Gulmarg, Sonamarg (through the Z-Morh tunnel) and Pahalgam are kept open, but heavy snow can close any of them for a few hours or a day, and Srinagar flights are sometimes delayed by snow. Gurez, Zero Point, Sinthan Top and the Mughal Road are closed all winter. Keep a spare day.
