The tulip terraces
Long beds of single colours — red, yellow, purple, white, and bicolour varieties — laid out down the slope.

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden — more than a million tulips in long bands of colour below the Zabarwan hills. Open for only three to four weeks each spring, from late March.
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, opened in 2007 on the slopes of the Zabarwan range between Dal Lake and the hills, is the largest tulip garden in Asia. More than a million bulbs of several dozen varieties are planted in terraced bands, with the lake below and snow still on the peaks behind.
It is open for a short window only. The garden usually opens to the public in the last week of March and the main bloom lasts three to four weeks — early varieties first, late ones into mid-April. The exact date depends on the weather that year and is announced by the floriculture department only a few days ahead.
If tulips are the reason for your trip, aim for the first two weeks of April. Book flights and hotels early: tulip season coincides with the start of the main Kashmir season, and Srinagar fills up. Go at opening time — by late morning the paths are packed and photographs are hard.
Spring is also when Badamwari is in almond blossom and the Mughal gardens come back to life, so a tulip-season trip gives you Srinagar at its prettiest. Gulmarg usually still has snow in early April.

Cultural programmes, food and handicraft stalls run alongside the bloom in most years.
Hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus are planted around the tulips.
Late March to mid-April only. Outside the bloom the garden is closed or bare. Tickets are sold at the gate; prices are revised most seasons.
