The meadow

A forest-ringed meadow about 5 km above Pahalgam, reached by pony or on foot and long sold as “Mini Switzerland”. Access has been restricted since April 2025 — check status before planning.
Baisaran is a large, gently sloping meadow above Pahalgam, surrounded by dense pine forest with snow peaks behind. There is no road; visitors climb about 5 km by pony or on foot from the town. For years it was one of the most popular excursions from Pahalgam, marketed as “Mini Switzerland”.
On 22 April 2025, tourists at Baisaran were attacked and many were killed. The meadow was closed to visitors afterwards, along with a number of other sites in the valley that were reviewed for security. Some of those have since reopened; Baisaran’s status has been decided separately by the authorities.
Do not build an itinerary on Baisaran without checking current access first. We will tell you the position at the time you travel — and we will not take guests anywhere the authorities have closed.
If it is closed, the Pahalgam day still has plenty: Betaab Valley, Aru and Chandanwari by union taxi, and riverside walks along the Lidder.

Large numbers of tourists visit Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg every season, and the main tourist circuit is well policed. Conditions can still change at short notice, so before you book, check the latest travel updates from J&K Tourism and any advisory from your own government if you are travelling from abroad. We are based in Srinagar and on these roads every day. If a road closure, weather or a local restriction affects your route, we will tell you before you travel and adjust the itinerary.
No. Betaab Valley, Aru Valley and Chandanwari are served only by the Pahalgam taxi union, so you change to a union vehicle at the Pahalgam stand. Rates are fixed by the union card; the April 2026 tariff ranged from about ₹900 for Betaab in a small car to ₹3,000 for all three points in an Innova.
On a five-day trip, a day trip from Srinagar is more efficient: about 2.5 hours each way, with no hotel change. On six nights or more, one night in Pahalgam is worth it, because you see Betaab Valley and Aru early, before the day visitors arrive.
