The valley floor
Stream, meadow and forest around the huts.
A small forest valley in the Shangus area of Anantnag, opened to tourism recently with a cluster of wooden huts. Very quiet, very green, and almost unknown outside Kashmir.
Chatpal is a narrow, forested valley in the Shangus area east of Anantnag. It was promoted as a tourist village only in recent years, with a small group of wooden huts beside a stream, and remains one of the least-visited places in Kashmir with accommodation.
There is little to “do” in the usual sense: walk the meadows and forest, sit by the stream, eat simple local food. That is the point. It suits travellers who have seen the main circuit and want a night of silence.
Huts are limited and simple; book ahead through us or the tourism department. The last part of the road is narrow. Mobile signal is patchy.
